Boredom –The Boon

Want to create something new, require a new idea for next meeting or your client wants a superior new design of your product but you can’t think of any or just need to focus on your studies this exam season…… Go bore yourself to death. What!!!!! Yes, just try boredom .Confine yourself in a place without any television, internet connectivity, books (if you like reading) and leave behind your best friend you can’t live without-your mobile phone. Deprive yourself of any chances of entertainment or socialization. Aughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh………..really, you can’t be serious! Yes I’m pretty sure. Our mind is very much like us…a lazy bum. It does not want to do much until it is forced to. That’s why Thinking is a difficult task. Unless and until it is really critical for our survival we don’t come up with something new. That is why amount of discoveries and inventions were way too high in ancient history than in modern times. With time, as humans has developed ways to keep them
To My Little Young Man Dear Son The world is wild and rough. The world is running, Angry and Mad.  Angry for what?  We don't know.Everyone is running their own race and compelling you too, to run along. Everyone is racing and if given a chance ready to pounce, pounce on you. Wait....Before you start running.Stop and look around......  Is this really what you want to do? Do you want to run their race? ...? Don't Worry! Relax!  If everyone is racing ,doesn't mean you should start running too. The world is angry,it doesn't give you a reason to be angry or mad at them.Keep your cool. Don't let the world know that you find their actions confusing or sometimes amusing,as it will add fuel to their fury. The world is hasty and judgmental, but it does not mean that you need to judge everyone who comes along. Please don't do what they are doing. If someone shouts at you, please don't shout back. I know you will not speak back, but p

Dare you be Happy My Child?

The world comes at the doorstep of India in search of happiness and satisfaction. When I see many foreigners roaming on the streets of Rishikesh & Haridwar, I wonder what we have to offer; when we Indians don’t have much to offer to our own kids. A recent study by HSBC ‘ Value of Education-Learning for Life’ reveals that more than half of the Indian parents want their children to be successful in their job rather than being happy, healthy or fulfilling their potential. The world is seeking Happiness, health and enough money to lead a comfortable life whereas we Indians just want to be successful at work. Can we term success equivalent to Happiness at life? I may be a continuous sales target achiever or revenue grosser for my organization but it does not guarantee time for family, a hobby or for lifelong learning. We do not care that we give back to society but we expect a revolution in life. Parents in Countries like Malaysia and Indonesia expect their wards to be the c

Be a Copy Cat!

Two decades ago when I visited a restaurant for the first time with cousins, I didn’t know how to use my fork or where to place a serviette? I never wanted to embarrass my cousin that he has brought his small town silly baby sister to a plush place. But I managed the show just by imitating my senior cousin. Not only a restaurant, I came out of many such fixing situations where I never knew how to conduct myself, I just copied the people in front of me with a smile on my face and a confident gaze. So don’t think copying is bad, copying behavior to learn things is primitive. An infant learns by copying its parents and people around. A language is caught rather than taught by imitating. We work on our skill sets by following an ideal or mentor. We pickup many a traits of ours; which we like in our parents, friends and spouse subconsciously just by replicating them. Same can be applied to an interview scenario, where you are confused to choose what type of body language, to

Let’s Learn from Movie Industry!

Mastering Interviews: Winging v/s Scripting ‘I like to be spontaneous and natural while answering questions. I cannot sham myself, I’ll rather like winging than faking.’ said a student of mine while discussing strategies for answering frequently asked interview questions. My take on this will be “it’s not faking .Its understanding yourself, planning, practicing and executing your thoughts in a way that they come out as credible and appropriate answers.” The movie industry is the best example of penning, rehearsing and executing the scenes to deliver power packed performances. All the acts, situations and dialogues do not come naturally to the actors. They can’t just ‘wing it’ all the time. There is obviously a script with well written dialogues to be executed; to deliver a believable character on screen. Much practice, rehearsals and retakes are required to pull it all. It’s strategic to script, memorize, practice and implement appropriate answers to key interview questio
